Paul and Chris Calle

PAUL CALLE (79) was one of the first artists picked for NASA's Fine Art Program in 1962, which chronicled many behind the scenes images and captured for posterity artistic interpretations, to give a human touch to the mechanical photos and video. He was the only artist allowed to shadow the Apollo 11 crew on the morning of their historic launch of the first moon landing, resulting in a portfolio the cameras never saw.

He has designed more than 30 US postage stamps and postal covers. Among these is the well-known First Man on the Moon series of stamps which sold more than 150 billion. Calle also designed the U.S. Postal Service’s first twin stamp to commemorate Ed White's Gemini IV Space Walk in 1965.

Though Paul Calle paints in both oils and pencil, he is an acknowledged master of art in pencil and shares his knowledge in his book, THE PENCIL.

Paul Calle's art is in the permanent collection of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Chris Calle

CHRIS CALLE graduated from the University of Michigan School of Fine Art in 1983. Chris has designed many U.S. postage stamps and comemorative first day covers, including the 20th Anniversary of the First Man on the Moon commemorative stamp. Chris shares a special interest in stamp design with his father, Paul Calle, who designed the original stamp commemorating the landing of the First Man on the Moon in 1969.

While growing up, Chris often sketched with his father, Paul, who continues to be a constant source of knowledge and inspiration for him. The two share a studio in Connecticut. Chris inherited the talent and is continually nurtured by his father, ensuring a long tradition of the finest in American art.
