Jim Lovell Portrait Litho

Show Print Only

by Jim Lovell

Show Framed

8x10 NASA litho. Jim was aboard the first flight to the moon, Apollo 8 in 1968, and then back with the ill-fated Apollo 13. He had the most hours in space at that time, flying on Gemini 7 with Frank Borman for the first long duration (2 week) flight, and then again on the final Gemini 12 flight, with Buzz Aldrin, who iced his own flight to the moon with a textbook spacewalk, and working Agena rendezvous calculations in his head when Gemini's computer went down.

Lovell just missed the cut for the original Seven Mercury astronauts, but was the first of the "New Nine" Gemini and Apollo crews. Today, at age 79, Lovell still flies his own aircraft to dozens of speaking engagements every year. Energetic as a man half his age, he is an eloquent and unapologetic advocate for the further exploration of space.
