Dave Scott and the lunar rover near 1000 foot deep Hadley Rille, the winding mile-deep canyon near the landing site of Apollo 15. Though it appears to ground controllers he is precariously near the edge, the rim of the rille was actually a gentle slope.

Hadley Rille is thought to be a collapsed lava tube, which once channeled molten lava during the early history of the moon.
