Gene Cernan Custom Signing

week of August 28, 2001

...at Novaspace Gallery

We are Gene Cernan's #1 dealer and business partner. We have some business to take care of and can't get to Houston to meet with him, so we convinced him to fly his twin Cessna out here at the end of August so we could meet and also do this custom signing to make it worthwhile. This will be his fourth trip to our gallery.

This will not be a public event. Mailed-in memorabilia only.

ORDERS NOT ACCEPTED
WITHOUT ORDER FORMS

PLEASE read this before you ask any questions. Some topics might not be covered, but we're a small operation, and we have many pieces to process, get signed to your specifications and get back to the right people. If you have a concern or non-covered question, we will be happy to answer, staff@novaspace.com, Prices are at the bottom of this page.

Satisfaction

We have only had a couple of complaints with our custom signing service, out of hundreds of satisifed customers. We cannot guarantee your satisfaction with placement, as we are not in complete control here, but we do our utmost to get it right. Remember, items sent directly to some astronauts can get lost, damaged, smeared, or otherwise messed up, and you must accept some risk.

5 item maximum

There is a five item limit, unless other arrangements are made. This signing is meant for collectors. No duplicate items. Covers and philatelic items are limited to two, no duplicates.

Shipping

Shipping is included with the price for flat items under two pounds. Boxed items or books must get a quote, include prepaid waybill or include credit card number.

Right of refusal

Capt. Cernan reserves the right to refuse to sign your piece. We will make sure you get a refund or aren't charged should this occur. We are clearing unusual or controversial requests through Capt. Cernan ahead of time, so we minimize last-minute refusals.

He will NOT sign

Capt. Cernan won't sign SpaceShots trading cards, nor In the Beginning or any other Alan Bean prints. Nothing against Alan, in fact he signed the newest Bean print, but didn't and won't sign any of the others. Cernan won't normally sign philatelic items, but will for our signing. Limit of two per person.

Signing Idiosyncracies

Capt. Cernan has highly stylized handwriting, so lengthy inscriptions may be hard to read by someone who doesn't know what it's supposed to say. So be forewarned. Gene tends to sign large if given the space, and this presents problems with fine point metallic pens. The stroke length and speed often results in gaps, as fine point metallic pens cannot keep up the flow. We'd suggest medium or large point metallic pens for larger signatures.(Sharpies are no problem.)

Third party authentication

None of the astronauts we have had so far will sign flown items from a third party. This implies endorsement and authentication. Unless it's from the astronaut's own PPK, they are reluctant to sign.

Post-it notes

We encourage the use of post-it notes to mark locations, ink color, orientation and special instructions in addition to the information you include on the order form. Post-it notes work great on most items, but stick permanently to inkjet prints, so be careful.

Pens

You can send your own pens, but we do this a lot, so we have every kind of sharpie, fine point, regular on hand, as well as metallic pens in broad or fine point gold or silver. If there's a pen you need to specifically match, send it along.

Photos for Sale

Since Jeremy Theoret at apollospace.com is on vacation, will sell unsigned versions of our photos for $10/8x10 and $35/16x20. You can just add them to the order form. Of course you can also provide your own items. See our selection of Cernan photos HERE. NOTE: "Home by Christmas" not available unsigned.

Deadline

August 25th is the drop-dead deadline. We will start accepting shipments immediately. If you have an unusual item that needs Capt. Cernan's approval, we strongly suggest letting us know early.
