Dr. Harrison "Jack" Schmitt
Dr. Schmitt was the 12th of the 12 men to step on the moon and only geologist and professional scientist to fly in space during Apollo. He flew as part of the Apollo 17 crew that explored the valley of Taurus-Littrow in December 1972. He later became the only Apollo astronaut to be elected to the United States Senate and the only natural scientist to serve there since Thomas Jefferson. He currently is chairman of the NASA Advisory Council and has just published a book entitled "RETURN TO THE MOON: EXPLORATION, ENTERPRISE AND ENERGY IN THE HUMAN SETTLEMENT OF SPACE."
Dr. Harrison "Jack" Schmitt was here in November for a memorabilia/booksiging. This was the first booksigning in our new location, so we had no experince fitting everything in but all went well, even though many patrons missed our huge gallery from the other location, they were impressed by our new, more compact digs.
As usual we had catered food, lots to eat and drink and a large tent. Folks attended from as far away as Germany and the UK.
Dr. Schmitt was very gracious; answering questions after giving a brief talk before settling down to signing the 250 or so books for attendees. he was friendly, engaging all patrons in conversation, answering questions, and posing for photos.
He was also typically articulate at the videotaped question and answer session. The videos are below. Thanks to all who submitted questions.
