Flown to the Moon

FLOWN Apollo 17 beta cloth bag

This is an Apollo 17 flown beta cloth bag, used for Gene Cernan's utility towels. Flameproof beta cloth was used after the Apollo 1 fire to enclose anything flammable. This is 8"x 13", zippered, with the pink tag showing this is 37 years old (another tag is sewn on the inside with a different manifest #, as this was an "assembly") The bag was stowed in the CM, not surface flown. Cernan wrote on all his keepsakes shortly after touchdown with a rare "Eugene" so there would be no doubt later on. Official stowage list entry lists weight (full) and that 4 of these were stowed aboard the CM.

Comes with an LOA from Gene Cernan.
