This is another outststanding multi-signature print by Alan Bean's publisher, Greenwich Workshop. Not only did they assemble the largest-ever astronaut autograph session, they made it a textured canvas print.

This product has been in the works nearly all year. In coordination with the Astronaut Scholarship Fund and the Astronaut Hall of Fame, Greenwich Workshop commissioned Alan Bean to paint a work symbolizing the pioneer astronauts of the space program: Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz, and the spirit of exploration.

The painting was reproduced as a two-story mural in the lobby of the Astronaut Hall of Fame and as a limited edition textured canvas. Although Bean's original works begin with a heavily textured surface, his paper limited editions have only hinted at this. Alan's unique texture is made with "tools" such as his moon boots, core sample tube, and lunar hammer. These historic artifacts are now visible and touchable in the new canvas, in which the actual painting is cast and the print attached to fine art canvas. The canvas is then stretched on a frame. Even Alan Bean was astounded at the realism of this process.

The canvases were signed by the astronauts at the induction ceremony and reunion at the Astronaut Hall of Fame in Titusville in October, 1997. The edition of 1500 was split between Greenwich Workshop and the Astronaut Hall of Fame/ Astronaut Scholarship Fund, with the lowest numbers and lowest pricing structure going to Greenwich and its dealer network of 1100 galleries.

All surviving Mercury astronauts, and all but one Skylab astronaut joined most Apollo astronauts in signing the piece. 24 astronaut signatures in all, the most-ever on one document. The signees: Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Wally Schirra, Gordon Cooper, Walt Cunningham, Rusty Schweikart, James McDivitt, James Lovell, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon, Edgar Mitchell, Fred Haise, Charles Duke, Alfred Worden, Paul Weitz, Owen Garriott, Jack Lousma, Bill Pogue, Jerry Carr, Ed Gibson and Tom Stafford.

The retail price is $2200+shipping for the canvas. With the frame, it's only $2295+shipping. Full payments receive a $100 discount and free 2nd day shipping. There is also an automatic credit card time-payment plan, with $1100 down and the rest broken up into 4 payments of $275 or so automatically charged to your credit card.
