Glacial meltwater in the short summer forms runoff and waterfalls everywhere. Basalts form in hexagonal columns (like Devil's Tower, WY) from rapidly cooling volcanic eruptions. The original painting was 6 x 3 feet. This is a hypothetical icy moon experiencing a periodic summer melt. Framed in copper aluminum.

The scene show a comet growing its tail, appearing over Valles Marineris, the huge canyon system on Mars. Dunes are widespread on the Red Planet.
