Dave Scott was the first to drive the lunar rover, landing his Apollo 15 LM Falcon in the spectacular northern mountains of the Hadley-Apennine region in mid-1971. Apollo 15 was the first real scientific exploration of the moon, and the two moonwalkers (Scott and Jim Irwin) spent nearly three days on the surface. The entire crew was schooled in geological skills bys ome of the top names int he field, and it paid off with an unprecedented booty of meaningful rock samples and lunar photography. Apollo 15 was the first "J-mission," utilizing a heavy-lift Saturn V, and rechargable backpack for extended lunar stays. The lunar rover was a Godsend, enabling precise navigation and long-distance lunar exploration. SPACEFEST 2009 AUTOGRAPH FEES (Fri-Sat maybe Sun)
