Rusty Schweickart flew the very first Lunar Lander in the Apollo 9 shakedown cruise in 1969. As the first LMP (Lunar Module Pilot.) He also had the task of stepping out of the LM into space to test the lunar EVA suit Armstrong and Aldrin would rely on four months later. The mission was a complete success.

Rusty was chosen as a NASA astronaut in 1963 in the 3rd group, and was backup crew commander on Skylab's first mission. He has an advanced degree from MIT. The youngest of the Apollo astronauts, he is a formidable golfer. He is currently chairman of the B612 Foundation, dedicated to protecting earth from doomsday asteroids. He will speak on the subject at the speaker's forum at Spacefest.
