Teacher Paks

As you already know, a picture is worth a thousand words. In education, a good illustration can make the difference between a student struggling with a concept or embracing it. You'll know when the light in their eyes shows you've kindled the flame.

Space art has this power. It can turn even the most problematic or placid student into an inquisitive dynamo. Our artists strive to create compelling yet accurate scenes of real or plausible worlds. They are well-versed in the several sciences necessary to render a realistic view of someplace they have never been and will never see.

We have several friends who were chosen by NASA to be the first "teacher in space". Although the program suffered the 1986 Challenger disaster and the loss of Christa McAuliffe, the 100-odd survivors, two from each state, continued to work with NASA as "Space Ambasssadors". Many of these same educators are now in powerful positions to choose curricula and make policy related to aerospace studies. We began working with these folks in the late 1980s.

Normally in the course of our regular gallery and mail order business, we must reject some prints which are unsuitable for sale, usually because of some small printing or paper flaw, dent, scratch or other minor blemish. We normally have to cut them up and throw them away. Our teacher friends took some of them off our hands, found them very useful, told some of their colleagues, and the Teacher Pak program was born.

Many educators use these prints as classroom decor, presentations, or as prizes for top students. All reports indicate that Teacher Paks are an indespensable teaching aid.

For a minimal shipping and handling charge ($25 USA only) we will gather up a dozen or more of our blemished prints, and send them in a tube to you. Usually the blemishes are so minor that you will be hard-pressed to see them at all. Our QC people are ruthless.

However, there are some caveats and restrictions to protect ourselves and our artists

  • We ask that you do not sell these prints.
  • Limit one Teacher Pak per semester
  • You must request the TP in writing on your school letterhead, and please mention you saw us on the Web. Mail to: Novaspace Galleries, PO Box 37197 Tucson, AZ 85740.
  • We can't fill requests during our Christmas (10/15-12/15) season
  • We can't fill requests (usually) for specific items. Some artists have requested exclusion from this program. Most of the art is owner Kim Poor's, since half the art we sell is his.

We'd also like to remind you that we have space artists scattered throughout the world, and they are sometimes available for slide presentations and lectures. They are articulate and passionate about their work and well-versed on space science. They can also judge science fairs and art contests. Fees or honoraria are very low. Call, write or Email us for more info.
