Your News for April 2019!

No April-foolin'! Here's something to take your mind off filing your taxes.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Chesley Bonestell

Saturn as Seen from Titan

Saturn as Seen from Titan

by Chesley Bonestell
28 in W x 22 in H (print only)
31 in W x 26 in H (framed)

VERY LIMITED QUANTITY!

Look what we found tucked away! A few more SIGNED copies of this beautiful and iconic print, that we bought from a collector years ago, then forgot about.

Painted in 1948, this image launched a thousand careers, and is the most popular and enduring of Bonestell's visions; simple, yet exotic. A timeless masterpiece.

Each lithograph has a slight, almost unnoticeable dent in the image area, that cannot be seen when framed (and is barely visible when not framed). We reduced the price accordingly.

The Conquest of Space

The Conquest of Space

by Chesley Bonestell
24 in W x 20 in H (print only)
29 in W x 25 in H (framed)

A print commissioned from us by Bonestell Space Art, this is Bonestell's signature piece, and one of his most requested images. Done in 1948, this painting was the cover of the book with the same name. Although a movie called Conquest of Space was made, it was actually based on another book by Wernher von Braun. This scene is more reminiscent of Destination Moon, which earned Bonestell an Academy Award for special effects.

Saturn from Mimas

Saturn from Mimas

by Chesley Bonestell
24 in W x 20 in H (print only)
27 in W x 23 in H (framed)

A print commissioned by Bonestell Space Art, this is one of the master's most amazing exercises in detail and scale. A huge Saturn looms on the horizon of its inner moon Mimas. Originally painted in 1944 for a LIFE magazine article, this is also the cover of the retrospective Bonestell book, The Art of Chesley Bonestell.

Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986) inspired an entire generation of astronomers, artists, writers, engineers, and visionaries with his remarkable paintings. Living to the age of 98, he saw the entire scope of human flight, and himself influenced humankind's push into outer space.

Bonestell kindled America's drive to other planets with a series of stunning LIFE magazine articles in the 1940s, and illustrated the seminal Conquest of Space with author Willy Ley. Bonestell then teamed up with Wernher von Braun, resulting in a series of illustrated articles for the popular 1950's weekly Colliers. These were sublime visions of the future of space travel that would inspire the bright, young minds that would propel the first men to the moon in less than twenty years.
